Remembrance Day Tribute: “Flanders Fields”
November 10, 2009World War I: This poem was written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD, on May 3, 1915, the day after his close friend was killed by a German shell. He was sitting at the back of an ambulance near the Yser Canal, just a few hundred yards north of Ypres. The poem describes the scene around him.
